Can anyone recommend a good scanning software for a 64 bit version of windows 7? I looked at Kurzweil 3000, but apparently that only supports 32 bit versions and open book do support 64 bit versions. I didn't look much at textbridge pro because apparently it only works with windows xp or older, so openbook is the only one I've found so far.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks.
OK. I tried the demo of Openbook, which detected my scanner and scanned, but then refused to recognize the text, even when I changed the background color and stuff. I know now that this isn't just a problem I have, because I got a friend to do the same thing with an older scanner and he had the same problem.
This is getting stupid and I've got a tonne of stuff that kind of needs scanning. *annoyed*
try fine reader? I'm not sure whether it works with 64 bit or not, though.
Raaj.
Stupid question, but where do I get that from again?
Here's something that I originally posted on another thread. Perhaps, it can help you. I'm not sure if these work with anything passed XP, since I had no reason to look, but the sites should be able to give you more information. All of these should be accessible, even though many are not directly made for the blind.
"There are apparently a number of ocr packages available today that are ridiculously cheap. I found them at

I'm listing the ones still available along with their sites and current prices. Their descriptions can be found at AbleData and at their sites but I'll include a quick note on whether they're self-voicing.

I'm sure there's something about 64 bit operating systems that all this scanning software seems to hate! Gurr'rr'rr'rr'rr'rr???
Kay I had your problem with the scanner I have. First off is your scanner a twain scanner, if so under scanner selection does openbook see your scanner? Last do you have your drivers for the win7 64 for the scanner. I know its a lot to ask you but with out the drivers for win64 your scanner is a fancey paper weight.
The simple answer as to why 64-bit is so frustrating is that most people have yet to embrace it, but once more memory is required for more software, it'll become more popular. In fact, this is the reason I went with a 32-bit system earlier this year. Many developers are not making drivers that are 64-bit compatible.
That's the thing, they'll have to soon.
maybe it is the type of scanner. open book works best with hp scanners.
